Welcome to Write Here
Inspiring Writers to their Highest Goals

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..." How did Charles Dickens choose that immortal beginning to one of the greatest novels ever written? How long did he sit in front of the most terrifying sight any writer faces—the blank sheet of paper—before the muse moved him to write that brilliant opening line? Every writer has been there. Maybe that's what led you to this website. Even prolific, successful writers (E.B. White, to name one) occasionally need to trick themselves into reaching down for the first words of a new story, poem, letter, or business proposal.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Carol Sweet, owner and operator of Write Here. The pages I've created here are meant to encourage you to pursue your writing goals, give you courage to face the empty sheet of paper, and motivate you to begin filling it with your own words. Brenda Ueland, author of the classic If You Want to Write, says, "Everybody is talented, original and has something important to say..." Everybody—that means you, too. I'm here to get you started if you're just beginning; to get you unstuck if you're in a ditch; or to nudge that elusive muse with some prompts and themes. Creative self-expression is healthy and fulfilling. Page through this site, give some of the exercises on the Let's Write Now! page a try and come back often for new prompts and announcements. Happy writing!
